Her work prioritises welcoming and inclusive spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community.

She actively works with traditional and faith leaders and healers to disrupt ideologies and traditional perceptions of personhood, gender and sexuality and encourage complex identities for gay, gender-nonconforming, queer, trans and asexual people.

Her research addresses the schisms between religion and gender in South Africa.

Education: Sibisi is a PhD candidate in the Gender and Religion programme at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).

Tracey’s quote on what the award means to her:

“The awards means representation and the recognition of sacrifice in the quest to help build progressive and inclusive environments. It means giving a voice to those that are working towards amplifying the voices of the “other” and giving people the strength to continue doing this on a bigger platform and with greater visibility. It is a space that promotes the spirit of community and collective effort in fighting exclusion. I am honored to be recognized, yet alone seen as a finalist on this platform.”
